Case Study: Welcome Mentor Volunteer Spotlight Isabelle

Welcome Mentor Volunteer Spotlight  – Isabelle

Isabelle signed up to volunteer with Welcome Mentor Program during Covid, she had heard about us through her Dad who worked in the Council.  She wanted to help wherever she could using her Spanish language expertise. Over the last few months, she has worked with several families and individuals to support them in feeling safe and welcomed into Kirklees.

Support Isabelle has provided so far:

  • Provided translation support to enable a customer to access Opticians
  • Facilitated Baby Bank and Clothing Bank deliveries for customers
  • Relayed important information from customers that we were able to pass on to specialist services including Midwifery, DASH and Health Services
  • Translated several documents into written and video pieces regarding key information around Covid and support available

Isabelle is a full time Uni student studying French and Spanish , yet always finds time to support our service users.  She is always happy to give her time and has a really lovely way that makes the people she is supporting feel reassured and well supported.  We are very lucky to have her as part of our team.

Isabelle said: “I’ve found it a really positive experience for me as I can see I am making a difference and helping people to settle in and get what they need. I really love the role as it’s incredibly rewarding”.
