Downloadable Ways to Stay Warm and be Energy Smart resources to help you support Kirklees residents stay warm and well during the colder months. This replaces theAffordable Warmth resource from previous years and continues to include information and sources of support for our residents to keep warm efficiently and safely in the coldest of months.

There are too many avoidable deaths each year in Kirklees, primarily due to heart and lung conditions from cold temperatures. The reasons more people die in colder months are complex and interlinked with inadequate heating, poorly insulated housing and health and financial inequalities. This is exacerbated by circulating infectious diseases, particularly COVID-19, Flu, and norovirus.

The resource details ways in which households can stay warm, save money, and increase income, contact organisations who can help with home improvements and access help with housing. Those most likely to experience fuel pressures are:

· Over 65’s;

· Those with long term conditions;

· Young families;

· Disabled people;

· Pregnant women and

· Low-income households.

When you meet individuals from any of the groups above, you may find the resource useful to provide to them or to help you signpost for further support. You can also access further information and sources of support at: www.kirklees.gov.uk/warmerhomes.

If you require further copies of the resource, please contact Karen Milson: karen.milson@kirklees.gov.uk
