Jeanette’s Volunteer Story
Jeanette volunteers at Clem’s Garden assisting with gardening tasks.
How did you find out about volunteering?
Through an advertising leaflet in the foyer of Friends’ Meeting House, Huddersfield. A gardening club rents space there for meetings and one of their members left it.
What type of activities do you usually do as a volunteer?
Potting on, pruning, weeding, feeding, watering and any other jobs which need to be done.
What do you like about your volunteer role?
It enables me to play a small part in a bigger project. Customers are able to buy locally grown flowers instead of flowers which have been flown in, so we play a small part in improving the environment.
How has volunteering made a difference to you?
I have no garden so it is good to spend a little time working in one and learning more about when things should be planted and how they should be treated. It is also good to meet people from different walks of life.
