Opening Doors

TSL Kirklees manages a couple of projects under Kirklees Council’s #kirkleeswelcomes programme supporting asylum seekers and recent migrants.

This Way for English

This Way for English aims to coordinate and improve access to ESOL provision by assessing learners’ needs, tracking their progress and identifying gaps in provision. The project will be delivered from community outreach venues, including schools, across Kirklees. It is a partnership between TSL and Kirklees Council funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

The project is managed by Christina Simpkin

Welcome Mentor Service

The Welcome Mentor service is a partnership between TSL and Paddock Community Trust. The service aims to support asylum seekers, refugees and migrants to feel welcome and settled in their local area. We recruit volunteer Welcome Mentors who are friendly and approachable and can support people to feel welcome, get access to local services, and make friends and support networks in their neighbourhood.
