Pennine domestic abuse partnership – Christmas appeal
Please can you help us make Christmas magical?
Pennine Domestic Abuse Partnership (PDAP) are launching their first ever Christmas Appeal for the families we support! 23 families will be spending their Christmas this year safely in refuge due to fleeing domestic abuse. Families arrive in refuge with very little due to leaving their home in haste, and will often arrive with only a few personal items.
PDPA also support over 120 families in our outreach programmes. This year, with your help, we want to make their Christmas as special as possible.
Gifts:
We will be supporting the families that currently reside in refuge and those residing in the community through our outreach services with a Christmas food hamper and gifts. Any gifts are welcome, although we do ask that gifts are new and unwrapped. Any gift donations will be provided to Mum along with wrapping paper so that she can wrap the children’s presents and leave them out for her children on Christmas day. We also have some single women living in refuge and their gifts will be wrapped by staff so that they also get to receive a Christmas gift! If you would prefer to have some suggestions from us, then please do get in touch.
The theme this year is on cosy comfort. We are mindful that our families are impacted by the cost of living crisis, particularly when they move on from refuge to their new, forever home. We would like our campaign to focus on warmth: new blankets, hats gloves, slippers , scarves and dressing gowns.
Food Hamper Donations:
We work very closely with the wonderful Welcome Centre in Huddersfield who provide the residents with a food parcel of essentials when they arrive in refuge. We would like your support to be able to gift a few luxury food items – like chocolates, biscuits and mince pies.
If you feel that you could provide gifts and/or a food hamper for a whole family, then please let us know and we can give you further details on the gender/age of the children.
Due to our refuge locations being confidential, the donations can either be dropped at our head office or we can arrange to collect from you. If you are collecting with your friends and family and have larger donations, please do let us know in advance.
To help our resident elves and Mother Christmas sort donations and deliver, we will need all gifts and donations to be either dropped or collected by Friday 15th December. We will then be distributing all gifts and hampers to the families at our Christmas Celebration on Wednesday 20th December.
Donations can be delivered to: PDAP, Unit 17, Brookes mill, Armitage bridge, Huddersfield. Please phone ahead to ensure staff are available to receive your donation, staffed usually 9-4pm 0800 052 7222
Heartfelt thanks to you for all your support and kindness throughout 2023.
About the organisation
PDAP is a registered charity that provides high quality specialist support, advice, information and safe accommodation to anyone effected by or experiencing domestic abuse. We have been delivering a range of specialist domestic abuse services in Kirklees since 2002 when two domestic abuse services merged. Huddersfield Womens Aid which had been in operation since 1975 and Kirklees Asian and Black Womens Welfare Association which had also been operating services in Huddersfield for over 10 years. We chose the name Pennine Domestic Abuse Partnership in recognition that domestic abuse goes beyond violence and in acknowledgement that the quality and effectiveness of our services are a result of the strong working partnerships we have
