Sara’s Volunteer Story
Sara volunteered with Citizen’s Advice and a Food Bank which helped her gain in confidence and inspired her to set up her own Community Interest Company.
How did you find out about volunteering?
Through word of mouth friends and family. Then I did further research online .
What type of activities do you usually do as a volunteer?
I would usually take customer details, support customer queries, file paperwork, fill in online systems, pack food parcels, organise parcels and paperwork.
What do you like about your volunteer role?
Helping other people find solutions to issues and challenges they were facing. Socialising with a team of people. Job satisfaction knowing I’d helped people achieve or receive support.
How has volunteering made a difference to you?
I was able to get a brilliant reference from the manager of Citizens Advice for my University application. It also inspired me to set up my own CIC to support vulnerable people in my local and surrounding community.
This experience helped to build my confidence getting back out into the world of working whilst my children were very small. I gained experience and friendships and a lot of satisfaction from helping people along the way.
