Thinking of supporting The Welcome Centre this Christmas? Here are a few ideas to help you, help us.
If you want to support The Welcome Centre in the run-up to Christmas you can donate money (these are match funded by Aviva up to Christmas) or food. Focussing on our most needed shortages is the best way to help us. These are the items we need week in, week out. However, if you want to add a few festive treats this year, then please choose items from our Christmas treats list:
- biscuits
- selection boxes
- chocolates
- sponge puddings
- custard
Please do not buy
- advent calendars
- Christmas puddings
- Christmas cake
- mince pies
- items with alcohol
- fresh fruit and veg
We are unable to pass on any products containing alcohol and are inundated with mince pies which often have a very short date.
Our warehouse in Lockwood will be open until 2 pm on Friday 22nd December ready to receive your donations. Alternatively, donations can be made at one of our drop-offs.
You can find more information how to donate in this link https://www.thewelcomecentre.org/pages/christmas
About the organisation
At The Welcome Centre, we have spent more than 20 years helping families and individuals in crisis with food, toiletries, and other essentials through our food bank. More recently, we recognised a growing need to offer people we help advice, guidance and support to tackle the underlying issues causing them to be in crisis. We continue to offer both practical support and guidance and advice to anyone in our community who needs our help. However, since we first opened the doors to our food bank we have strongly believed that food banks should not exist in the UK in this day and age. Crisis food provision is not a sustainable solution to financial hardship; nobody should have to turn to a food bank to feed themselves or their family. Our vision is to close the doors to our food bank because it is no longer needed. The only way this can happen is if everyone has enough income, from work and social welfare, to buy the essentials they need to live.
