Multiply (Funded courses and activities for your community group)

Get funding to put on an engagement event or activity with your group & then get access to full-funded courses & activities for your community that help local people gain confidence and number skills

Multiply is a new government-funded programme to help adults improve their numeracy skills, for any adults aged 19+ who don't have a grade C in Maths GCSE.

In Kirklees, TSL Kirklees has been commissioned by West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Kirklees Council Employment and Skills to make sure that the programme is community-led and reaching the right people.  The programme has 3 priorities:

  1. to help people with budgeting
  2. to reach people who are 'hard to help', such as those who are unemployed, living in areas of deprivation, or have poor health
  3. to work with families who want to improve their children's numeracy

Community groups and community venues in Kirklees can apply for up to £100 to run an engagement activity with the groups of people and communities that they work with, and find out what sort of things they would like to do to improve their confidence, number skills and encourage learning.  Groups can apply for more than one engagement activity if each one will target a different group of people.

They will then be matched with a local learning partner who will put on the fully-funded courses and community learning activities for them.  These will include funding for things like childcare, refreshments and any kit that's needed (such as devices and cooking equipment).  The activities and courses can be absolutely anything that people are interesting in doing from hairdressing and beauty, to cooking and cake decorating, to woodworking and gardening, or walking and exercise classes.  The learning partners will work out how to include some numeracy and budgeting skills into it.

The 5 local learning partners are local charities with both local knowledge and specialist skills and expertise:
