Who Are We?
Re-engage (formerly Contact the Elderly) is the national charity dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation amongst older people living in the United Kingdom. Our mission is to empower older people to make new social connections, and break out of the cycle of social isolation.
Activity groups are free monthly groups open to people aged 75 and over who are lonely, isolated and in need of companionship. Taking part in the groups is a great way to stay active and to make new friends.
We have activity groups in Wales, Birmingham, West Yorkshire, Bristol and the South West.
Become an activity group volunteer
Activity groups are free monthly groups open to people aged 75 and over who are lonely, isolated and in need of companionship. The groups are a great way to stay active and to make new friends.
As an activity group lead volunteer, you’ll take turns leading the monthly session and support other volunteers when it’s their turn to lead. You’ll also socialise with the older people at the activity group, ensuring that everyone feels supported and listened to.
The gentle exercises, activities, and sports can vary from group to group and month to month depending on what it is the older people enjoy. However, each activity group will contain an activity that gets people moving such as: dance, chair exercises and stretches, boules, skittles or boccia.
This is a flexible volunteering role, and you’ll work alongside the activity group coordinator to ensure that each activity group has enough activity group volunteers to lead and support the sessions.
- Facilitating or delivering an inclusive activity with the focus on physical health and social wellbeing.
- Making activity guests feel welcome to the groups and ensuring people can participate in the activities. Activity groups are coordinated by a volunteer group coordinator.
- Following the guidance in your training to ensure that your group sessions are enjoyable, appropriate and in line with our charitable aims.
