About the Organisation

The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust runs a network of hospital services across three sites at Pinderfields, Dewsbury and Pontefract.  Volunteer roles are currently available at Dewsbury Hospital.

Role Description

Our cafés provide a service to the patients, staff, and visitors to the trust. This volunteering opportunity will enhance your experience in customer care and retail and and an opportunity to make new friendships in a caring supportive environment.

Hours

We ask for a regular commitment of 4 hours per week on a set day this could be on a morning, afternoon. (Volunteers work in pairs on a rota system).  However, if you can commit more time that would be warmly welcomed. Our Bronte Cafe opens 10am - 2pm and our Ridings Cafe has two shifts 8am - 12pm and 12pm - 4pm.

Tasks:

  • Maintain a clean and tidy outlet, storeroom, work tops and cupboards.
  • Rotating stock to prevent waste
  • Refilling shelves and display goods appropriately
  • Recording fridge and freezer temperatures on paperwork provided.
  • Heating food and checking temperatures, recording these on the correct paperwork.
  • Selling of merchandise from the outlet
  • Handling cash
  • Serving customers with hot drinks, food, shop purchases
  • To chat and reassure patients and visitors
  • Using a card machine

Dress Code:
ID badge and volunteers’ tabard or polo shirt must be worn at all times to clearly define role of volunteer for patients.

Dewsbury and District Hospital is located at Halifax Road, Dewsbury WF13 4HS.
