Champion Volunteers help us to build awareness of suicide in their local community. They start a conversation with individuals and groups about suicide prevention and let them know what help is available to those struggling with suicidal thoughts.
What would you be doing?
- Presenting to groups; delivering our SP-ARK talk to groups of 10 – 30 people. SP-ARK talks are 30 minute presentations that build awareness of suicide and suicide prevention.
- Face-to-face engagement with members of the public – attending a range of events to provide information about PAPYRUS and what help is available.
- Network within your own community to find opportunities to build suicide awareness.

About You
We are looking for volunteers who:
- Can present PAPYRUS’s vision and values at events and talks
- Are confident in public speaking
- Are able to be respectful and sensitive to other peoples’ views
- Are able to work within our Confidentiality Policy and talk about suicide and the charity in a sensitive way. [Training will be given]
What you can expect from us
Training
You will be trained on:
- how to deliver formal presentations using our in-house presentation package
- public speaking skills
- how to talk about suicide safely and PAPYRUS’ ethos, values and services
- safeguarding and how to follow our safeguarding procedures
Support
You will be assigned a Volunteer Coordinator or Trainer who will be on hand to help with any training needs, questions or problems that might arise during your volunteering with us. When you start volunteering you will always be paired with a staff member or experienced volunteer so that you can build your confidence.
You will be invited to quarterly volunteer meetings to share ideas with other volunteers.
Time Commitment
Champion Volunteer is one of our more involved volunteering roles. Our Champion Volunteers typically deliver around 4 talks a year and attend events of behalf of the charity, as well dedicate time to preparing for their talks.
Training for this role typically takes 2 – 3 days of time, so do bear that in mind if you are applying for this role.
