About the Organisation

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is a charity dedicated to conserving, protecting and restoring wildlife and wild places in Yorkshire.

Our vision is for a Yorkshire that is abundant in wildlife, with more people having a genuine and meaningful connection with nature.

We were established as a charity in 1946, and are part of The Wildlife Trusts movement. We look after over 100 nature reserves right across Yorkshire, and are involved in hundreds of other conservation-related projects. Our work inspires people to understand the value of nature and to take action for it.

Role Description

Stirley is an area of former farmland that is slowly being transformed into an area of land dedicated to nature. We are busy throughout the seasons, with lots of tasks to get involved in. We are planting hedges and trees to encourage nesting and feeding sites for birds, mammals and invertebrates. Restoring wildflower meadows by seeding native species. Caring for our heritage by repairing dry stone walls. Looking after our footpaths for visitors to enjoy. Caring for our livestock who play a huge role in our habitat management. And many other things too.

We are looking for new members for our Tuesday and Thursday teams of conservation volunteers.

You don’t need to have any experience in this sector providing that you are happy to get stuck in and learn. We do ask that you have a reasonable level of fitness as some of the tasks can be physical and can involve walking up hills and on uneven terrain. The two teams meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays (most people attend one or other of the days) and volunteer from 10am until 3pm.

By volunteering with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust you will also gain access to our volunteer training program where you can learn about anything from willow tit surveying to dry stone walling.
