Home-Start Kirklees is a volunteer led family support charity, offering volunteer support and practical help to families in Kirklees with pre-school children under the age of 5.
We provide a unique service – recruiting and training volunteers to support parents with young children at home who are struggling to cope.
We offer practical help and emotional support to any family in Kirklees who have at least one child under five and not yet in full time education. The families we help are struggling to cope because of a range of concerns such as ill-health, disability, poor mental health; debt or housing problems; family breakdown; loneliness. In addition, families may also have experienced a multiple birth, be new to the area, or be socially isolated.
Our trained volunteers offer weekly support to young families to help alleviate the challenges and pressures of family life, increasing the family’s capacity to cope, help reduce isolation and build confidence and resilience.
We are part of a national network of Home-Start schemes around the UK. Each scheme is run locally and is responsible for raising their own funding. Home-Start Kirklees has been operating since 1999, and we have helped over two thousand families since then.
Home-Start Kirklees is an established family support charity based in Kirklees with over 25 years’ experience. We support hundreds of families every year, helping them to improve family life through targeted group support sessions and one to one support remotely or in the home. We work closely with health providers, Social Care, Kirklees Council and the VCSE sector.
