The Crossroads Project: Serving Our Community for 29 Years

Welcome to The Crossroads Project, a Christian initiative born out of the collective effort of Meltham Churches aimed at demonstrating God’s love and making a positive impact in our community. For the past 29 years, we have been dedicated to serving as a beacon of hope and support for individuals and groups in need.

Our Journey:

In February 1996, fuelled by a vision of community transformation, we opened a community shop run entirely by volunteers. This shop quickly became a hub for affordable and high-quality goods, including toys, clothing, bedding, and household items. Through the generosity of donors and the hard work of our volunteers, the shop not only sustained itself but also generated funds to provide community grants. To date, we have distributed over £575,000 to local initiatives and individuals in need.

In 1997, recognizing the importance of providing information and support, we established an information and advice center in the heart of Meltham. This center served as a space for outreach sessions and offered facilities to established groups at no cost. Our commitment to accessibility and inclusivity led us to continuously adapt our services to meet the evolving needs of our community.

Expanding Our Reach:

In 2014, in response to the growing challenges faced by local families and individuals, we established a small Food Bank. This initiative aimed to provide immediate assistance to those experiencing crisis situations, offering essential support when it was needed most.

However, as our services expanded, it became evident that our premises were no longer suitable. In 2019, through collaboration with Meltham Town Council and our landlord, Max Bradley, we relocated to the old Town Hall in Meltham. This move provided us with greater accessibility, spacious meeting rooms, and enhanced facilities for our Food Bank.

Continuing the Journey:

Our commitment to serving the community remains unwavering. As we settle into our new premises, we continue to adapt and grow to meet the needs of those we serve. The expansion of our shop and the relocation of our center are testaments to our dedication to making a lasting impact in Meltham and beyond.

Join Us:

Whether you’re looking to volunteer, donate, or access support, The Crossroads Project welcomes you with open arms. Together, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those in need and spread the message of love, compassion, and community spirit.

Role Description

Trustee Opportunities – Treasurer

 The Crossroads Project

Meltham

The Crossroads Project is looking for a volunteer Trustee who could take on some of the responsibilities of Treasurer with a view to taking on the role at the end this year. The Project is here to serve the Meltham communities and was established 29 years ago by Meltham Churches Together. It remains an organisation founded in Christian principles; however, we are open to any volunteers – regardless of background or faith – who reflect these principles in their work and in the community. In 2024, we were awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Services in recognition of the work we do as a volunteer lead organisation in the community

About the role:
Ideally, the volunteer Treasurer would be someone with experience or an interest in finance. Some of the responsibilities would be to maintain financial control, records and ensure we comply with our legal responsibilities as a Registered Charity as well as negotiating contracts with suppliers, utilities, landlords etc.  Our accounts are not overly complex, but we do have several income streams and manage the finance of the Advice Centre, Foodbank and Charity Shop, in addition to other funds. You would be supported by the current Treasurer until the end of his tenure and the Assistant Treasurer.

Trustees meet at least 4 times a year for half a day, and at times get involved in day-to-day issues of running the organisation or specific events such as fundraising. We really believe that getting involved in community groups and activities can seriously improve your health and wellbeing! So come along and join us!

Interested?

If you would like more information about the position and would like an informal chat, please feel free to contact the Chair of the Trustees Sue Priestley info@thecrossroadsproject.co.uk  or the current Treasurer Andrew Collins accounts@thecrossroadsproject.co.uk in the first instance. Or you can contact us at the Centre on 01484854500 or by email at info@thecrossroadsproject.co.uk

We look forward to hearing from you!
