IASK works with approximately 100 service users per week – 85% of which are people seeking asylum or pre-claim and 15% with recent leave to remain status. IASK specialises in supporting beneficiaries who are destitute but also offers help to those who are:
In pre-claim status, Experiencing their initial claim, Refugees setting up benefits and a home after receiving a positive decision, Refugees in a family reunion situation, Seeking further support following refusal.
Our range of support includes:
Advocacy relating to benefits and accommodation, ESOL classes, Destitution support and hardship payments, Practical support with translation, transport, Home Office signing, detention and appointments.
Weekly drop-in sessions offering information, emotional and social support. Most of this support is provided by volunteers supported by 2 members of staff and Trustees.
We are looking for new Trustees and would be interested to hear from anyone passionate about supporting our work with asylum seekers and refugees. You will have the opportunity to shadow current Trustees before you take over the role.
Trustees meet quarterly and we also have other subgroups you can get involved with.
