About the Organisation

Sharing Memories Group is a friendly, dynamic arts and wellbeing group that aims to alleviate loneliness and social isolation by bringing older people together to share their memories of the past with each other and with the wider community and to use these shared memories as a basis for creating high quality art works.  We make, draw, paint, chat, write songs and lyrics, sing, dance, learn heritage crafts, tell stories, and re-live memories.  We get together intergenerationally with schools, adults with learning disabilities, mental health issues, refugee groups etc.  The group meets once a week on Thursdays in term time at either The Phoenix Centre in Holmfirth or at the premises of whichever other community organisation we are working with.

Role Description

Whilst we have 3 professional artists working with the group, we also need volunteers to help, with tasks like picking up & taking members home, helping members in and out of cars, taxis & the building, making drinks, washing up, collecting subscriptions, assisting one-to-one the members who have additional needs (for example sight loss / hard of hearing / dementia) to carry out their artwork and chatting to members to alleviate isolation.  This is so that everyone in the session has an equal opportunity to participate in the creative activities being undertaken.  We also need help at any fundraising events that we run, open days, exhibitions or other events.

We are planning to change our legal status from that of a community group to a registered charity so would like to talk to anyone interested in becoming a Trustee in 2024.
