inclusive volunteering with umbrella yoga

Umbrella Yoga is a not-for-profit organisation that brings communities together through yoga. They run a range of inclusive yoga sessions including for adults with learning disabilities. Last year they delivered over 1,000 sessions to over 2,000 participants across Kirklees.

This year they have recruited 4 new Volunteers to help assist participants at their inclusive classes as well as supporting their training course on Teaching Yoga to adults with Learning Disabilities.

Arjun, Casey, Jack and Sarah have progressed from participants to Volunteers, and are really enjoying their time volunteering with Umbrella Yoga. They shared some of their motivations for getting involved:

“It will help with confidence”

“It will make me feel strong and powerful”

“I want to challenge myself”

“I want to be active and social and meet new people”

and “I want to be involved with a team”.

Bernadette, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Umbrella Yoga commented:

“Umbrella Yoga is lucky enough to have these wonderful volunteers! All giving up their time and sharing their fabulous energy to make our community a stronger, more accessible, and more supportive space.”

Umbrella Yoga express their thanks to Waves Day Centre who they have been working in partnership with.
