International Tree Foundation – UK Community Tree Planting Programme

Summary: Funding is available for community-led tree planting projects across the UK that help protect, restore and expand native trees and woodlands while engaging local people in planting and long-term care.

Deadline: 11 December 2026.

Value notes:

    • Discretionary, with support for projects planting between 100 and 10,000 trees per year.
    • Funding is available at up to £2.15 per tree (including tree protection and mulch).
    • Additional maintenance grants of £0.10 per tree are available in each of the first two summers after planting.

Projects must:

    • Plant trees in publicly accessible spaces such as parks, schools, public rights of way or community-managed land.
    • Use indigenous tree species (including traditional fruit trees where appropriate).
    • Involve local communities in planting and benefiting from woodlands.
    • Demonstrate clear maintenance and sustainability plans.

Priority Themes

    • Engage children and young people.
    • Engage vulnerable groups or communities with limited access to woodlands.
    • Enhance biodiversity.
    • Conserve soil and water.
    • Trial innovative approaches such as agroforestry.
    • Support rewilding or natural regeneration.
    • Address tree disease resistance or climate adaptation.
    • Deliver urban tree planting.
