TSL Kirklees Volunteering is the official Volunteer Centre for Kirklees
This means that we’re here to help you get started on your volunteering journey and support you through the process.
We also make sure that any groups or charities that advertise for volunteers on our website will look after their volunteers properly. Some of them will have a stamp of approval called the Kirklees Volunteering Quality Award (KVQA), which means that they’ve done even more to make sure that their volunteers are valued and have a good experience.

Kirklees Libraries are increasing reading and literacy, improving digital access and literacy, supporting everyone to achieve their full potential, supporting everyone to live healthier and happier lives, enabling greater prosperity, building stronger more resilient communities, offering everyone access to culture and the opportunity to be creative. Volunteering opportunities are varied and include storytelling, supporting events, helping with crafts, gardening, running Lego and code clubs, admin role e.g. secretary, chair and planning rotas for Friends of groups and many more. If you want to make new friends, get out and keep active, support your community or gain new skills we have something for you.
In this role you will be helping people at Dewsbury Library, with little or no English. You will help people to learn English and get more involved in the wider community. Supporting people to improve their English is a rewarding yet challenging experience. Focusing on the things people need to do in their everyday lives, such as going shopping, using public transport, and going to the doctors, you will help learners to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills as well as their confidence.
For this role you will need to be enthusiastic, friendly and organised. You do not need to speak an additional language.
The role may involve:
- supporting staff and delivering events
- preparing resources for the event including photocopying and setting up displays
- Meeting and greeting customers
- Recording names and numbers of people attending an event
- Tidying and evaluating the sessions.
An induction to the role and appropriate training will be provided. We can offer travel expenses if you are required to attend any training so you it will be ideal if you live near the library.
You will become part of a friendly and dedicated team and have an opportunity to meet new people and gain experience for your CV.
