We provide advice and support to anyone who needs it
Based in Huddersfield town centre for over 100 years, we help those struggling with multiple and complex needs such as homelessness, mental health, addiction and more.
Our advice volunteers play a vital role in supporting the work of our advice team within our morning, in person, drop in sessions.
You will be supporting customers with multiple and complex needs to access services and welfare provision. Part of your role will include making referrals and working closely with the Advice Staff. You will be required to record your conversations and outcomes either electronically or on paper.
Location and times:
- Huddersfield Mission
- Weekdays 9.30am – 1pm
- 1 or 2 days a week
The role will typically involve the following tasks:
- Working on a one to one basis with customers to establish issues and barriers
- Supporting customers to access appropriate services to meet their needs
- Make telephone referrals and contacting external agencies
- Recording detailed notes and accurate information from your conversation with customers
- Taking direction and guidance from Triage Officer
- Compliance with Huddersfield Mission's policies and procedures
Additional:

We would welcome skills and attributes in the following areas:
- Previous experience in a customer facing role, preferably in advice and support.
- Patience and an ability to provide a listening ear
- Demonstrating a respectful, unbiased and non-judgemental approach
- Assess and agree priorities to be addressed in short term drop in session time and book appointments to address follow up if needed.
- Good verbal communication skills
- Resilience and ability to respond professionally in challenging situations
- Able to maintain professional boundaries, in line with Huddersfield Mission policy, at all times.
- Supportive and reliable team member
- Accurate & appropriate record keeping
- Understanding of GDPR, confidentiality & safeguarding
- Commitment to ongoing development of Huddersfield Mission Advice Service
