Bibliotherapy in practice: a person-centred approach to using books for mental health and dementia in the community
Words in Mind, run by Third Sector Leaders Kirklees, is a National Lottery Community Fund funded project that aims to bring people together through words, reading and reminiscence.
The project recruits and trains volunteers throughout Kirklees to help set up and run therapeutic reading groups for people with dementia, mental health issues, isolation, loneliness and their carers, and is working with community groups, community venues, care homes, in-patient wards and residential homes to host these groups.
The project was recently commended in a published journal co-written by Dr. Liz Brewster and Dr. Sarah McNicol after evaluating the Words in Mind project last year.
