Community Buildings Network is your building on the list?

We are updating the list of community buildings in Kirklees and inviting people to join the network.

We understand that running community building is a challenge. Energy and maintenance costs are high, bank accounts are often under pressure and there are a long list of safety and other requirements to meet. Together, we can find solutions to common challenges. Joining the network helps you to connect with others – the more that join, the more wisdom and experience we can share!

When you register, the form asks how you want the network to work and what your priorities are.

Who can join?

The kinds of buildings might be:

  • A church, mosque, temple or similar faith building
  • A youth club, childcare provision, children’s centre, therapy rooms
  • A sports hall, gym, bowling or golf club, changing room, leisure centre, pool
  • A day centre, social centre, pub, club, café or events venue
  • A theatre, training centre, scout/guides hut, cinema or dance hall
  • A tenants or community association space, friends of the park hut
  • A multi-use community centre
  • Or some other building for community benefit and activities

Your organisation might own, lease, rent or borrow the building – so long as you have some ongoing responsibility for looking after it.

Third sector organisations are charities, community interest companies, companies limited by guarantee, co-operatives and community benefit societies that act for the public benefit.

Organisations that support organisations that manage community buildings – for example by providing grants, services or advice – can also join as ‘supporters’, including public sector organisations or private businesses. Some information and events will be for members only, not supporters.

Natural Kirklees supports organisations involved in looking after green spaces. Natural Kirklees members are welcome to come along to Community Buildings Network meetings when there are topics that interest them.

In 2024, Kirklees Climate Commission coordinates and supports the Community Buildings Network, thanks to funding from TSL Kirklees. The Commission contracts with Tom Taylor to provide the network support.
