Cook to Connect: The Power of Cooking and Sharing Good Food to Connect and Strengthen Communities

WhoAnyone who is looking for new ways to support or organise good food activities in their community linked to cooking and/or sharing good food.

The session will focus on cooking and sharing food in a wide variety of ways, from cooking lessons through to cooking surplus food and sharing it, and will include: 

  • An update on the Get Togethers programme, with the latest opportunities.
  • Jane Sixsmith, Head of Cooking Skills within the Soil Association will talk about the many benefits of cooking together along with examples showing how to achieve these benefits yourself.
  • Donna Borokinni, an experienced Community Cook who works for the Glasgow Community Food Partnership has created a new resource – a guide to virtual cook alongs, covering everything you need to run your own cook along sessions digitally. The guide will be made available after the session.
  • Jodie Griffith from Cultivate in Powys, Wales will talk about her (substantial) experience of running a variety of cooking and sharing activities in the local community along with top tips to make it work well.
  • Breakout rooms – to connect with other attendees in small groups, to discuss ideas around all the different ways that cooking and sharing good food can benefit your community.
  • Information about Cook & Share Month – a fantastic opportunity to join in with other people across the UK who are cooking and sharing food.

The session will be hosted on Microsoft Teams.
