Hello and welcome to the first Energy Neighbours update!

There has been a lot of work going on in Energy Neighbours, setting up the office, recruiting the team and finding hosting organisations for the team in their priority areas across Kirklees.

Meet the Team

  • Clare Black – Energy Neighbours Manager
  • Rabia Maheen – Project Coordinator
  • David Ennis – Community Worker – North Huddersfield
  • Evie Whittingham – Community Worker – South Huddersfield
  • Habiban Zaman – Community Worker – Batley & Heckmondwike
  • Vacancy – South &  West Dewsbury

While Clare and Rabia are based in the Energy Neighbours office in Dewsbury, the Energy Neighbours Community Workers Evie, David and Habiban are based in community organisations who are doing amazing work in their communities.  They are;

  • Rainbow Baby Bank – Heckmondwike
  • The Chestnut Centre, home of LS2Y – Ashbrow
  • Storth House CIC – Cowlersley
  • and our Dewsbury worker will be based at Thornhill Lees Community Centre

We still have one worker for Dewsbury to recruit, the job details can be found here, and the application closes on the 25th July.  Please share with anyone you think might be interested in joining the team.

What are we doing right now?

In this first stage of the project, the team are out and about in their areas visiting community organisations and getting to know their areas.  We aim to work with Community Organisations to support them to build capacity, reduce energy cost and reinvest money saved back into their communities. We can help with:

  • Access to resources and funding
  • Building skills, networks, and confidence
  • Understanding and reducing energy use
  • Making a plan and helping to take action

Whether you’re a community centre, village hall, faith organisation, scout hut, sports facility, or something else, if you’re working for the benefit of the community, we would love to hear from you and explore how we can help and work together with you and your communities later in the project.

How can you get involved?

  • Get in touch if you would like to know more about the project
  • Share with other organisations who might be interested in the project
  • Join our WhatsApp community to get announcements on events and share learning & resources

To learn a bit more about the project before you get in touch or to sign up to the mailing list, visit our Energy Neighbours page.

We really hope you get in touch soon and become Energy Neighbours with us!
