Kirklees Council

Community Connector

  • Full time

Join Our Team as a Community Connector!

Are you passionate about helping people?

Are you good at building relationships?

Are you great at communicating and working with diverse groups and individuals?

In Community Plus, we use an asset and strength-based approach to the work we do. Our engagement with individuals and communities explores community-based solutions and in doing so, we seek to reduce the demand on statutory provision.  Community Plus acts as the connecting layer between services and the community and is a support service for people of all ages and abilities.

As a Community Connector, you will be place-based and work alongside local people, identify local groups and local resources, explore peer and neighbourhood support and seek to develop community networking opportunities.  You will work within the councils Inclusive Communities Framework (ICF) and use Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approaches to enable your role in supporting communities to be safe, connected and well.

Your focus will be on prevention and early help, understanding and acting on when individuals or communities need support. You will support individuals and communities to develop their own support activities, providing the building blocks they need to thrive.

We’re seeking proactive, outcome‑focused individuals to join our team. You’ll be part of a supportive environment with a varied workload and a dynamic role — no two days are ever the same in Community Plus.

Requirements for this role:

  • Skilled in delivering and advocating asset-based approaches – focussed on mobilising the skills and assets of individuals and communities and building their personal resilience.
  • Experienced in community organising, community development or volunteer co-ordination, and able to motivate, mobilise and co-ordinate efforts across communities, volunteers and diverse stakeholders.
  • High energy, strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Empathic and able to relate to individuals, groups and organisations in a variety of different circumstances.
  • Knowledgeable and understanding of the issues affecting the lives of the target populations and the services, initiatives and policies that impact on them.
  • Experience of working in diverse communities; understanding different cultures, faiths, migration, and championing inclusion.
  • Experience in 1:1 support conversations, including coaching techniques.
  • Experience in managing a caseload of clients and groups.
