Motunrayo's volunteer story
“I attended a Welcome to Volunteering course with TSL in October last year which helped me to understand what volunteering means and what it would entail. It also helped me to understand some of the important things for my current volunteer role including safeguarding.
After attending the Welcome to Volunteering course, I was supported by TSL staff to help me find a role of interest. I now volunteer as a Patient Helper with Locala. As part of this role, I accompany patients to the right department for their appointment, provide directions, help patients with using the car park paying machines, take registrations of Blue Badge owners and collect feedback from patients.
Volunteering as a Patient Helper has helped boost my self-confidence and I have improved my communication and writing skills, teamwork and organisation skills. It has also helped me manage my time effectively and allowed me to pay attention to detail.
Since attending the Welcome to Volunteering course and joining Locala as a volunteer, I have learnt new skills, met new people, found out more about Locala and broadened my knowledge.”
