TSL managed Project shortlisted for national Health Award

A Community Champions project in Ravensthorpe & Dewsbury has been shortlisted for the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Partnership Awards 2023 for Most Impactful Project Addressing Health Inequalities. The awards recognise and honour the most effective partnerships, innovative projects and collaborations in the UK health system, and celebrate new ideas that can shape the future of our new integrated health and care system.

Ravensthorpe Community Centre & Neighbourhood Matters, worked with Yorkshire & Humber AHSN to help reach people in the South Asian community who are traditionally less engaged with asthma treatments, possibly because of language barriers or not understanding the difference between different medication and the need to take them regularly to control the condition.

The project worked with a respiratory consultant from Mid Yorkshire Hospital NHS Trust to raise awareness, run workshops and focus groups, and to produce videos and resources in 10 different languages. The groups have given culturally appropriate advice on what music & images to use & an Imam has given advice on using inhalers during Ramadan.

University of Huddersfield and Al-Hikmah Centre also contributed to the success of this project.

The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on 23rd March 2023.
