Role Description

Student Placement: Wellbeing Centre Volunteer

Gain valuable experience while making a real difference.

Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees is a local charity, proudly affiliated with Age UK, supporting older people across Calderdale and Kirklees to live independently, safely, and with dignity.

Our Wellbeing Centres are lively, friendly spaces where older people can enjoy activities, meals, and social connection. As a Student Placement Volunteer, you’ll support our staff and clients while gaining hands-on experience in a community setting — perfect for college or university students looking to build skills in care, health, or social services.

What you’ll be doing

During your placement, you’ll help with the daily running of the centre, including:

  • Supporting clients and helping them enjoy activities
  • Assisting with meals and refreshments
  • Helping run social sessions and creative activities
  • Escorting clients around the centre if needed
  • Keeping the environment safe, tidy, and welcoming

You’ll work closely with staff, observing and learning from experienced professionals while contributing meaningfully to the centre.

When you’ll volunteer

  • Typically 10am–3pm, once a week, but we’re flexible to fit around your college or university timetable

What’s in it for you

A placement at our Wellbeing Centre is more than volunteering — it’s an opportunity to:

  • Gain practical experience in care, community support, or social services
  • Develop skills in communication, teamwork, and organisation
  • Build confidence in a professional, supportive environment
  • Make a positive impact on older people’s wellbeing
  • Enhance your CV or university application with meaningful experience

Who we’re looking for

We welcome students from all backgrounds who are motivated, reliable, and enjoy working with people. No prior experience is required — just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

Join us for a student placement and make a real difference while gaining valuable skills for your future career.
