We’re looking for volunteers across Calderdale and Kirklees who want to support their local community, meet new people, and make a meaningful difference — right on their doorstep.

Whether you can give a little time or a lot, your support can help an older person live the life they choose.

Loneliness can have a huge impact on older people. As a Volunteer Befriender, you’ll help change that by offering regular, friendly companionship to an older person in your local community.

What you’ll be doing

As a befriender, you’ll:

• Spend time chatting, listening, and building a genuine connection
• Offer companionship through home visits or phone calls
• Help someone feel valued, heard, and less alone
• Make a real, visible difference to someone’s wellbeing

You don’t need special qualifications — just warmth, reliability, and a willingness to listen.
