volunteer story - frankie
Frankie has been volunteering in the Oxfam Bookshop. This involves taking in donations, pricing books, printing labels and sorting gift aid donations. On the shop floor there are also tasks to undertake such as sorting the books by their topics, stacking shelves and setting up window displays.
Frankie has enjoyed volunteering in a supportive setting:
“It’s a nice environment. The pricing is easy and clear, and can go by swiftly. The other volunteers are nice and offer help if I need it. There also hasn’t been any pressure to work in the front of the shop if i don’t feel comfortable enough to do so”.
Volunteering has provided an opportunity for Frankie to grow as a person:
“I think it has certainly given me more confidence in myself within a work-like space around other people and shown me that I can complete hours of tasks with no pressure. Also since it’s a book shop, there’s lots of things to be interested in and I can take a look and even buy a book if I want to find out about it.”
