About the Organisation

LISAS is an Community Interest Company. We run social groups in Cleckheaton on a Tue 10-11.30 from Our Lady Of Unfailing help and St Paul of the Cross parish hall.  On a Wednesday from Birkenshaw scout hut 1 – 2.30 . We are in the process of setting up a dementia group on a Thur 1- 2.30 which will also run from the scout hut in Birkenshaw. LISAS also offers local outings and a loan service of books and jigsaws.

Each of our groups cost £4 which include refreshments. The access bus is also available.

At both our groups we have a quiz, play team games, Wednesday group sometimes do craft or baking activities and we finish with a game of bingo.

 

 

Role Description

About us:

We are Community Interest Company who provide social groups and outings for over 50s in Cleckheaton, Birkenshaw and Heckmondwike.

We are currently looking for male volunteers to support our over 50s group in Heckmondwike which involves a range of activities including dominos, chess, curling and more. The activities take place at the Salvation Army in Heckmondwike every Tuesday afternoon.

What will the role involve?

We are looking for friendly, approachable and patient male volunteers to support the group leader to ensure service users are welcomed and included at our groups and outings. Experience of working with or interacting with older adults would be an advantage but we welcome all volunteers.

What tasks will I do as part of the role?

Tasks may include:

  • Set-up of the room for activities
  • Welcoming service users on arrival
  • Serving tea, coffees and refreshments
  • Supporting and assisting service users with activities on offer such as quizes, group games, crafts, baking, bingo etc
  • Supervision and supporting members with additional needs including mobility needs, learning difficulties, health conditions and other disabilities.
  • Supporting and assisting service users whilst attending outings
  • Encouraging service users to engage in conversation with each other
  • Supporting with the tidying up at the end of the sessions

What support do you provide to volunteers? 

  • We will provide you with an induction and training for the role
  • We offer regular support meetings to see how you are getting on
  • We offer reimbursement of travel expenses when you are volunteering
  • You will be part of a friendly and welcoming team
  • You will have an opportunity to develop your skills and experience in a supportive environment.

Role commitments:

The role is flexible, you might be able to help weekly, monthly or now and again. Each session last 1.5hrs and volunteers usually arrive 30minutes early to help set up and stay at the end to help clear up. In total around 2.5 – 3 hrs.
