Read Easy is a small, but rapidly growing volunteer organisation, which provides free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading. Read Easy Kirklees & Calderdale is legally and financially independent but affiliated to Read Easy UK, a registered national charity. The group is run by a local volunteer Management Team
By helping people to tackle their reading difficulties, Read Easy also enables them to become more independent, move on to other forms of education if they wish, improve their employment opportunities, support their children’s or grandchildren’s reading and begin to explore many other opportunities in life as well. Above all, our Readers experience remarkable improvements in their confidence and self-esteem. In addition, the scheme provides rewarding volunteering opportunities for people who want to make a difference in their communities.
Joining the Kirklees & Calderdale Read Easy Management Team offers you the opportunity to use your time, skills and experience to make a real difference in your community, while working alongside other volunteers to support adult literacy
Finding the right people to form the Management Team is vital to the success of our Read Easy Kirklees & Calderdale group. It is important that we find people who have the enthusiasm, time and the right range of skills to take on the various roles that are needed for the group to be effective.
We are looking for volunteers to take on (or support) specific roles to ensure that the group runs as effectively as possible. We are particularly keen to recruit volunteers to support our Safeguarding and Coordinator duties, but if you want to get involved and are unsure of the best role for you, please get in touch to discuss options.
As a Team member, you will share responsibility for the overall effectiveness of the group and for the proper conduct and governance of its running.
Management Team meetings are generally held every 6-8 weeks either in-person or online.
The Management Team is also jointly responsible for organising Reading Coach Meetings and for hosting Coach training days as part of Read Easy’s regional training programme. Getting involved in the organisation of these and other events, can be a very rewarding and sociable part of the role and helps to build a sense of community.
The Management Team shares responsibility for ensuring the group provides the best possible experience for those who come to them to improve their reading. There is a lot to learn to begin with but it is truly rewarding when you begin to see the real difference you are making to people’s lives
