About the Organisation

Museum’s Mission Statement
The National Coal Mining Museum for England aims to keep coal mining alive by collecting and preserving the industry’s rich heritage, creating enjoyable and inspiring ways to learn for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

Objectives of the Charity
To advance the education of the public in the history of mining in England by the provision and maintenance of a museum both underground and on the surface at the former Caphouse Colliery for the demonstration of past and contemporary mining methods and the exhibition of machinery and other items connected with mining and industrial archaeology.

Role Description

Here at the National Coal Mining Museum for England we are looking for Nature Volunteers to help support our outdoor experiences. There’s lots to get involved with from tree planting to maintenance and engaging with visitors, there’s something for everyone.

What might you be doing as a nature volunteer?

  • Sapling planting and Balsam clearing
  • Keeping our bird hides in good order
  • Supporting with community group visits to the nature trail
  • Hands on opportunities
  • Supporting with engaging visitors and activities on the trail
  • Litter picking
  • Creating and maintaining bird feeders and bird nesting boxes

For this role you will need suitable and sturdy footwear. All other equipment will be provided.
