We work in the communities to the north of Huddersfield where we provide Scouting for young people from 4-25 years and our adult volunteers
Huddersfield North Scout District was formed in 1972 and covers Bradley, Fixby, Cowcliffe, Birkby, Edgerton, Marsh, Oakes, Lindley, Birchencliffe, Salendine Nook and Outlane.
The District is made up of 9 Scout Groups, 5 Explorer Scout Units and a Scout Network catering for young people aged 4-25 years, with a membership of around 600 young people (and growing).
Volunteering with scouts involves a wide range of roles, from directly leading young people to behind the scenes support like fundraising or administration and can be flexible to fit the time you have available and your skills. After finding a suitable opportunity through your local team, you'll go through a joining journey which includes some training, and you'll be part of a team working to make a positive difference to young people.
Scout volunteering offers diverse opportunities, such as:
Section Teams - Working directly with different age groups, like Squirrels (4-6yrs) Beavers (6-8yrs), Cubs (8-10yrs), Scouts (10-14yrs) or Explorer Scouts (14-18yrs), planning and delivering a wide range of activities.
Support Roles - Helping with tasks like fundraising, administration, keeping records, or even helping with maintenance at Scout centres.
Scout Adventures- Volunteering at Scout centres to help run events, serve in the shop, or assist with site maintenance.
Behind-the-Scenes - Contributing skills to leadership and management teams at a local, regional, or national level.
You will be expected to:
Commit to Safety ensuring that scouting remains a safe environment for young people.
Complete the necessary training for your role.
There are various options available including flexible and occasional volunteering so you can give the amount of time that works best for you.
