TSL Kirklees is continuing to co-ordinate a menu of half-day, fully-funded wellbeing experiences from local charitable organisations. The experiences are open to teams of staff and volunteers from any public sector, or voluntary and community sector organisation that has been working hard to support people and keep services running through the Covid pandemic.
What do you get?
Your team can choose from a range of fun, relaxing and new activities, that will help them relax, reconnect, and develop as team. You should also come away with some idea on how to keep supporting each other and improve collective wellbeing when back at work (which may include continuing to work with and support your chosen organisation on a regular basis). You can use the session however you want:
- as a training or team development day
- as a treat or a thank you
- as a social event and time for bonding and reconnecting
- for confidence-building or de-stressing
And at the same time, you’ll be finding out about and supporting the specialist work of a fantastic local charity or community group in Kirklees.
Who can take part?
The offer is open to anyone who needs it, from committees and partnerships, to boards and trustees and includes, charity workers, volunteer groups, Council staff, health and social care workers, teaching staff, and emergency services.
Most of the activities are open to groups of 6-12, depending on the venue and what’s involved. (If you have a big team, you may have to split into several smaller groups and have more than one session.)
If people would like to do something on their own or in a small group, please take a look at the organisation’s website or get in touch with them to see if they have open sessions that you could join or if there may be another group that you could team up with.
What are the options?
You can choose from:
- something with a definite health & wellbeing focus – such as mindfulness, yoga, digital detox, forest therapy, or colour therapy
- something with a team development & confidence building focus – such as leadership & team development (with horses!) or den building & fire lighting
- something creative – such as songwriting, journaling or nature crafts
- something active – such as cycling, gardening or woodworking
- or try something new – such as fishing, bushcraft, zip wires & rope swings
Many of the activities take place outside, but their are options for indoor workshops too. Some can come to you, and others take place at various venues across Kirklees.
HOW DO WE BOOK?
Take a look at the list of options below, choose your experience and then contact the organisation direct to book. Please say that you are enquiring about a TSL Kirklees-funded Wellbeing Experience for your team, and let them know:
- which activity you’d like to do (some have a choice of more than one)
- your preferred dates and times
- how many participants there will be
Please bear in mind that some of these organisations are staffed entirely by volunteers or part-time workers and so they may not be able to get back to you straight away. And you may need to be flexible with your dates to fit in with their capacity and timescales.

what do we ask in return?
First of all, we need employers, managers and volunteer managers to be supportive of teamswho want to attend and as flexible as possible with allowing the time off.
You will be asked for some feedback (including comments and photos/videos) at the session, and it would be great if we can contact you in a couple of months to see if there has been any longer-term impact on your work environment.

Mindfulness and Empowerment in Nature
Growing works delivers therapeutic gardening sessions for vulnerable adults; outdoor activities for families who have children with additional needs; gardening and outdoor therapy workshops, training and events and horticultural services.
Our weekly activities include:• SPROUT – whole family outdoor activities for families with children who have additional needs• BUD – Social and Therapeutic horticulture sessions to support health and well being• POD – a mobile unit delivering Grow Your Own workshops and training with a variety of groups throughout Kirklees.
- Wellbeing through empowerment – trying something new like bushcraft and firelighting, den building and knots or green woodworking.
- Mindfulness in nature – chill out outside, learn mindfulness techniques and yoga, enjoy nature crafts.
