community groups receive award for work iN vaccine campaign
Over 50 community groups in Kirklees have received an award from Kirklees Council to thank them for the vital work in supporting the Covid vaccine campaign.
During the pandemic, Third Sector Leaders worked with Kirklees Council and community groups to enable more local people to get their Covid vaccinations and boosters.
Community groups provided information about locations and times of vaccine clinics and held coffee mornings and wellbeing sessions where people could discuss any concerns and get accurate information about the vaccine from trusted local people acting as community champions for the vaccine.
The groups also helped with barriers such as transport and language difficulties. The work was particularly focused on deprived areas, and TSL gave out community grants to support new ideas and initiatives.
Kirklees Council evaluated the scheme which they found had great impact and achieved more that it originally set out to. It was recommended that it be kept going for other health-related issues and projects and the Council has awarded the groups involved a commemorative plaque to thank them for their work.
