This means that we’re here to help you get started on your volunteering journey and support you through the process.
We also make sure that any groups or charities that advertise for volunteers on our website will look after their volunteers properly. Some of them will have a stamp of approval called the Kirklees Volunteering Quality Award (KVQA), which means that they’ve done even more to make sure that their volunteers are valued and have a good experience.

Horton Housing is a not-for-profit organisation. We manage a wide range of different housing, training and support services across Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and North Yorkshire.
Horton Housing aims to promote social justice and equal access through the provision of a range of personalised housing-related support and training services.
We provide a range of services across Kirklees, Calderdale, Bradford and North Yorkshire for people who are vulnerable, and need support to address and manage needs related to a variety of issues.
STARS provides temporary accommodation and a support service for single, homeless people (aged 16 and over) in recovery from alcohol or drug abuse.
We have 15 self-contained single person properties in various locations across Calderdale and Kirklees. The service is available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
When will you be needed? Where will you be based?
- We are open Monday to Friday
- Week days 9.30 to 5.00pm
- You will be based at STARS , Huddersfield
- Your volunteer manager will be Bev Whitfield
What will I be doing?
To provide administration support to assist the STARS team with any appropriate administration tasks contributing to the smooth day to day running of the service. The role also includes helping staff facilitate activities and the occlusal day trip out.
The role also includes the need to follow Safeguarding processes if and when needed
- Supporting a small group of clients and assisting them with any work relating to their support plan.
- Facilitating client activity groups
- Answering the telephone and addressing any queries raised.
- Taking and recording any referrals.
- clients to appointments with other agencies as agreed with Support worker/Manager
- Undertaking Support Plan tasks as agreed with Support worker/Manager
