TSL Kirklees Volunteering is the official Volunteer Centre for Kirklees
This means that we’re here to help you get started on your volunteering journey and support you through the process.
We also make sure that any groups or charities that advertise for volunteers on our website will look after their volunteers properly. Some of them will have a stamp of approval called the Kirklees Volunteering Quality Award (KVQA), which means that they’ve done even more to make sure that their volunteers are valued and have a good experience.

Locala is proud to be a colleague-owned provider of NHS community healthcare services. Our colleagues make key decisions about the services we provide and how we support our communities. This role is situated at Ings Grove House Rehabilitation Unit, Doctor Lane, Mirfield WF14 8DP
You will be expected to provide one-to-one befriending for patients in the patient’s room, lounge or gardens.
You will also be expected to offer individual activities to patients in their rooms using the Activities Trolley, which could include:
- Jigsaw puzzles and board games
- Memory activities (using the ‘Alzheimer’s Society Book of Activities’)
- Reading (books, newspapers)
- Gardening equipment
In pairs, you may help to run group patient activities in the communal lounge or conservatory, such as Bingo or quizzes.
Finally, you may be asked to carry out ‘Comfort Checks’ for patients in the unit and help them to complete discharge surveys using an iPad.

Volunteers need to be aware that patients within the unit have a variety of medical conditions and disabilities, which may include hearing, sight, memory, speech, communication or mobility/fractures. Please be aware that all volunteers are required to complete an electronic mandatory training booklet before starting their placement. Locala will email the training booklet and an assessment document after a successful interview. Additional support is available if required. If you don’t have access to a computer, a paper version of the booklet and assessment can be provided.
