This means that we’re here to help you get started on your volunteering journey and support you through the process.
We also make sure that any groups or charities that advertise for volunteers on our website will look after their volunteers properly. Some of them will have a stamp of approval called the Kirklees Volunteering Quality Award (KVQA), which means that they’ve done even more to make sure that their volunteers are valued and have a good experience.

Born from one mum’s struggle to find the care her son needed, Forget Me Not is here to provide essential care to children with life-shortening conditions, their families and families living with the loss of their child across West Yorkshire.
Role Description:
We are looking for a volunteer to support our Holmfirth charity shop team in running the bridal suite. This role is ideal for someone with experience in sewing, alterations, dressmaking and/or bridalwear who can help to prepare donated dresses for sale.
Tasks & activities
- Carrying out simple sewing tasks, repairs and alterations where required, such as hems, buttons, minor seam repairs, and finishing touches.
- Helping to steam, prepare and present garments for display and trying on.
- Helping to create attractive occasionwear displays.
- Assisting the shop manager in running bridal suite appointments, fostering a warm, welcoming experience for the brides-to-be and their family and friends.
Personal qualities & experience
- Positive and reliable with a good eye for detail, garment quality and presentation.
- Good sewing skills and confidence using basic sewing techniques.
- Experience in bridalwear, dressmaking, tailoring and alterations would be highly desirable.
