This means that we’re here to help you get started on your volunteering journey and support you through the process.
We also make sure that any groups or charities that advertise for volunteers on our website will look after their volunteers properly. Some of them will have a stamp of approval called the Kirklees Volunteering Quality Award (KVQA), which means that they’ve done even more to make sure that their volunteers are valued and have a good experience.

Here at The Kirkwood we provide a range of care and support aimed at improving the lives of people affected by any life-limiting illness in our local communities. The Kirkwood Team work tirelessly to support people to improve their quality of life; remain as independent as possible; and maintain their dignity until the very end. Families and loved-ones are also supported during the illness and in bereavement.
As a Kirkwood volunteer, you will be helping us to provide care to people from your own community who are affected by a life-limiting illness. A little of your time can make a massive difference to what we can achieve! Is it your time to make a difference? We hope to hear from you soon!
This role is based at our Hospice situated on Albany Road in Dalton, Huddersfield HD5 9UY.
You will be assisting our Head Chef to offer a high quality dining experience for Customers.
Tasks may include:
• Liaising with reception/catering team with regards to the number of bookings and specific dietary needs
• Setting up the meeting space appropriately in line with the number of bookings/diners
• Greeting and seating customers
• Delivering food items and drinks to the tables
• Inquiring to see if the customers are satisfied and fetching additional items if required e.g. sauces etc.
• Ensuring a pleasant dining experience
• Ensuring the room is neat and tidy after dinners have left.
You will need to be friendly and reliable with good communication skills and the ability to follow our policies and procedures (training will be provided).
The role is available on Thursdays (serving afternoon tea) between 11.30am and 3pm
and Fridays (serving Fish and Chips) between 11.30am and 3pm.
