TSL Kirklees Volunteering is the official Volunteer Centre for Kirklees

This means that we’re here to help you get started on your volunteering journey and support you through the process.

We also make sure that any groups or charities that advertise for volunteers on our website will look after their volunteers properly.  Some of them will have a stamp of approval called the Kirklees Volunteering Quality Award (KVQA), which means that they’ve done even more to make sure that their volunteers are valued and have a good experience.

About the Organisation

River Holme Connections is a local charity with an aim to improve the whole of the River Holme Catchment. By connecting people, business and wildlife we can make it an even better place to live, work and experience.  We provide practical volunteering opportunities during the week and every third Saturday of the month from 10am-12 noon in various locations throughout the catchment area.  We also have a full programme of walks, talks and events running throughout the year.

Role Description
Do you want to get outside, help improve the environment and connect with nature and other people?
Our practical volunteer sessions typically run from 10am - 1pm, and are situated all around the Holme Valley. Our work is seasonal so we run a variety of different sessions across the year including:
Tree and hedge planting - December until March
Help us to plant a mixture of native trees and hedgerows to help improve biodiversity, create habitat, and improve flood resilience.
Himalayan Balsam removing - May until August
A great opportunity to get in the river wading to remove this invasive species. We also run sessions on land so there are opportunities for all abilities to attend.
Meadow Management - August to September
Cut, rake, and re-seed these vital carbon sequestering habitats with us, so new wildflowers and grasses can grow year on year.
We also complete a variety of non-seasonal work including path cutbacks, tree guard removal, river cleans, and other conservation related project. If you would like to get out and meet likeminded people, explore new places around the Holme Valley, and have a spot of cake along the way, get in touch to find out more about what opportunities we have available. No experience is required, and everyone is welcome!
Most tasks are held during weekdays. No regular commitment is required - a weekly email of opportunities is sent out to volunteers - read about the task and location and decide if you fancy it or not, its up to you if you book on! In addition we hold a work party every third Saturday of the month from 10am-12 noon - no need to book on for these - just turn up on the day and join in.
