TSL Kirklees Volunteering is the official Volunteer Centre for Kirklees
This means that we’re here to help you get started on your volunteering journey and support you through the process.
We also make sure that any groups or charities that advertise for volunteers on our website will look after their volunteers properly. Some of them will have a stamp of approval called the Kirklees Volunteering Quality Award (KVQA), which means that they’ve done even more to make sure that their volunteers are valued and have a good experience.

Would you like to volunteer at a local school to help children with their Reading ?
What are Reading Friends?
Reading Friends go in to schools as volunteers to work with children on a 1:1 basis for a minimum of 1 hour per week. Our volunteers are there to make reading fun and to help children be more confident in these areas, as well as helping them make progress in their reading.

The training covers Expectations of a volunteer in school, including Safeguarding, confidentiality, Prevent, record keeping and equal opportunities, Early stages of reading development , strategies to help children with phonics/difficult words and ways to support comprehension.
After your training, we will find a local school for you to volunteer in. This role is suitable for 19 years plus.
Please note, courses happen termly at different locations so you may have to wait a while to access a course near you.
