TSL Kirklees Volunteering is the official Volunteer Centre for Kirklees
This means that we’re here to help you get started on your volunteering journey and support you through the process.
We also make sure that any groups or charities that advertise for volunteers on our website will look after their volunteers properly. Some of them will have a stamp of approval called the Kirklees Volunteering Quality Award (KVQA), which means that they’ve done even more to make sure that their volunteers are valued and have a good experience.

We’re looking for volunteers across Calderdale and Kirklees who want to support their local community, meet new people, and make a meaningful difference — right on their doorstep.
Whether you can give a little time or a lot, your support can help an older person live the life they choose.
A few hours of your time can mean the world to someone else.
Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees is a local charity, proudly affiliated with Age UK, supporting older people across Calderdale and Kirklees to live independently, safely, and with dignity.
Loneliness can have a huge impact on older people. As a Volunteer Befriender, you’ll help change that by offering regular, friendly companionship to an older person in your local community.
What you’ll be doing
As a befriender, you’ll:
- Spend time chatting, listening, and building a genuine connection
- Offer companionship through home visits or phone calls
- Help someone feel valued, heard, and less alone
- Make a real, visible difference to someone’s wellbeing
You don’t need special qualifications — just warmth, reliability, and a willingness to listen.
