what is wellness works?
Wellness Works is a Kirklees-wide programme designed to support people with health-related barriers to employment. It brings together local organisations, communities, and health services to help individuals improve their wellbeing, build confidence, and move closer to volunteering, training or work.
We know that good health and good work are deeply connected -so Wellness Works focuses on personalised support, local solutions, and building stronger, more resilient communities.
Who’s it for?
Wellness Works is for people 18+ in Kirklees who:
- Out of work, or at risk of leaving work, due to a physical or mental health condition
- Would benefit from personalised support to build confidence, wellbeing, and skills
- Are looking for meaningful ways to reconnect with their community – through volunteering, training or employment
Referrals are welcome from GPs, social prescribers, support workers, or individuals themselves.
who’s involved?
Wellness Works is led by TSL Kirklees, in partnership with trusted community organisations and health partners across the four areas of Kirklees.
We’re working with our Community Anchor network, Community Champions network, local Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and other health colleagues and services to create a network of Health Hubs and Keyworkers.
how does it work?
Wellness Works is a 6-month personalised programme, and participants can choose as much or as little support as they want.
It includes:
- A dedicated Keyworker to work 1-to-1 with each participant
- An individual action plan tailored to health, wellbeing and life goals
- Access to local activities, volunteering opportunities, support services, and specialist help
- A network of Keyworker organisations and Health Hubs offering grassroots, place-based support
Together, we help participants take manageable steps towards better health, confidence and economic activity – at their own pace.
how is it funded?
This activity is part of Healthy Working Life, a joint programme of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board.
Healthy Working Life aims to deliver the region’s work and health plan and its vision for West Yorkshire to have the healthiest residents and workforce in England by 2040.
Created in consultation with residents and employers, Healthy Working Life will transform lives by offering personalised support to people with sickness or disability so they can stay in or return to secure, well-paid work.
