Huddersfield media students Offer content Support for Local Charities and community groups

Our new partnership with Huddersfield University involves students from all backgrounds developing written, audio, video, and social media content for small charities and community groups in Kirklees.

The students who are studying a range of subjects would support with small scale projects such as video production, social media content and planning / setting up social media accounts, a podcast or an event.

The University’s Deputy Head of Careers and Employment, Dave Stanbury, said, “This is an exciting way to support local charities and develop our students’ employability skills at the same time.”

To support this work, the University has access to five radio studios, two TV studios (one small, one large) and a brand new film studio on Firth Street. Students have access to dozens of video cameras, audio recorders and editing facilities. Students can book cameras, recorders, or radio studios at any time, as well as larger TV and film studios with a bit of notice. For clubs and charities, partnering with a student can be a viable way to gain access to these facilities.

How do I request support?

The offer is available to voluntary and community groups or charities in Kirklees. Please send your opportunity to comms@tslkirklees.org.uk with the following information:

  • a paragraph outlining what your charity or community group would like support with
  • contact email address
  • Give any details about the project closing date, payment, etc. There are some placement companies that offer a freelance rate, some smaller sums, some travel expenses only, some don’t – there are no problems with charities and community groups offering unpaid placements, but it’s best to clarify them upfront.
