Pandemic Volunteering Stories - Karen, Passenger Assistant and Covid Helper with the Denby Dale Centre
Why did you take on this volunteer project?
I wanted to help people in the community who were forced to shield. I am fit and well, had free time and access to transport so I thought it would be a useful thing to do during the pandemic.
What do you do?
I began by doing shopping for people and then moved on to collecting and delivering prescriptions. I am also a driver’s assistant for journeys to and from a day centre.
What have you found rewarding or memorable about your experience?
People were very grateful and appreciated my help with food deliveries and prescriptions. It has highlighted to me how much help is needed in the community.
