TSL Kirklees Volunteering is the official Volunteer Centre for Kirklees

This means that we’re here to help you get started on your volunteering journey and support you through the process.

We also make sure that any groups or charities that advertise for volunteers on our website will look after their volunteers properly.  Some of them will have a stamp of approval called the Kirklees Volunteering Quality Award (KVQA), which means that they’ve done even more to make sure that their volunteers are valued and have a good experience.

About the Organisation

We’re a Community Foundation for Kirklees. This means we do things a little differently. We use our community connections to identify local need through community engagement, relationship-building and collaboration. Then distribute core funding and project funding to local charities and community organisations.

We’re a member of UK Community Foundations – a group of charities, just like us, who use place-based funding to distribute local grants. Our network distributes £77 million of funding annually and together has Endowment Funds worth over £580 million. All members are accredited by the United Kingdom Community Foundations and approved by the Charity Commission.

We’re proudly independent. On a mission to do good. Using our community connections to make sure every donation makes the most impact.

Role Description

Flexible Volunteer Opportunity | Kirklees

One Community Foundation Kirklees is looking for enthusiastic volunteers with experience or an interest in community engagement, outreach, communications, or relationship building to help us strengthen our connections with local communities.

As part of our commitment to the IVAR Open and Trusting Grant-making principles, we are undertaking important work to listen to local organisations, understand community experiences, and ensure our approach to funding remains accessible, responsive, and shaped by the communities we support.

We are looking for volunteers who enjoy meeting people, building relationships, listening to community voices, and helping organisations connect with opportunities.

We anticipate there may be potential for two volunteer opportunitiesone focused on North Kirklees and one focused on South Kirklees – depending on the interest and experience of applicants. We would particularly welcome people who have existing knowledge of, or connections with, local communities and organisations in these areas.

How you could help

  • Visit and engage with community groups, charities, and local organisations across Kirklees.
  • Support conversations and listening activities to better understand community experiences and needs.
  • Help gather feedback on our funding programmes, processes, and communications.
  • Build relationships with local networks and help raise awareness of the Foundation’s work.
  • Support outreach activities, events, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Share information about funding opportunities with local organisations.
  • Help capture feedback and insights to support our learning and development.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience or an interest in community outreach, engagement, communications, development work, or a similar area.
  • Someone who is approachable, a good listener, and enjoys connecting with people.
  • Confidence engaging with a diverse range of communities and organisations.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • A passion for supporting local communities and ensuring local voices are heard.

Practical information

  • This is a flexible volunteering opportunity, with activities agreed around your availability.
  • The role may involve visiting community organisations across Kirklees.
  • Travel expenses will be covered for agreed volunteering activities.
  • Access to a car is helpful but not essential, as some visits may be possible using public transport.
  • We welcome applications from people interested in supporting either North Kirklees, South Kirklees, or both areas.

What you’ll gain

  • The opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to communities across Kirklees.
  • The chance to help shape how we listen, engage, and work with local organisations.
  • Experience of supporting a community foundation and local grant-making.
  • The opportunity to use and develop your skills within a friendly and supportive team.

If you are passionate about communities and believe that listening, trust, and relationships are at the heart of effective grant-making, we would love to hear from you.
